The first dance Steps
My dance journey begun in 2015.
I was 16 years old when a friend asked me if I want to try out a dance club for Latin American dancing.
Honestly, before that I never even thought about becoming a dancer. But the day I set a foot in this dance hall… well it changed my whole life.
It was a day during the summer holidays, the only dancers in the hall were two 60 years old Ballroom couples. Now, that I am a dancer myself, I can tell you they actually weren’t so great.
But I remember like yesterday what happend when they turned on the music and started to dance. They made their rounds through the hall, I think the music was a Viennes Waltz or a Quickstep. They fought about some step that didn’t go so well (who ever watched a senior ballroom couple know, that this is a very likely thing to happen). But in this moment, an absurd feeling of joy it me, an amount joy I have never felt before in my life. I knew, I had just found my place to be.
From this day on, dancing has become the most important thing in my life. In march 2016 I danced my very first competition, and it was quite a sucess.
After two months I passed into the next higher class, in autumn I made it through another two and a year later I already danced on international level. So you might wanna say my carrer took just right off.
Dance became my profession
But with the growing sucess, the pressure of performing and acting professional got bigger and bigger.
The problem was, that I didn’t have much experience to rely on. When everybody else already made it through years of dancing, competitions, lessons and shows, I still felt like the chicken who got right out of the egg trying to act like the chief hen.
I understood then that dancing is a lot more than just turning on the music, practice and performe. But dancing is a whole lifestyle.
So I started to observe others, to listen very carefully, even to the most boring conversations and I grabbed on to every piece of information I could get.
Even though my coaches back then Pavel Pasechnik & Marta Arndt (I would like to say a huge thank you here) did their very best to prepare me not only in technical aspects, but also in fitness, mindset, nutrition, organization and planning, I never got rid of the feeling, that something is missing.
The Beginning of Smart Dancer Blog
Watching the professional leagues of other sports, it occured to me, that dancing seems to be the only sport with absolutely no general support system for their athletes.
Of course, when you already are a great dancer, there is a lot of support and help. But you and me know that it is a very long road until you get there.
This is why I created the Smart Dancer Blog. I want to provide all the information, tips, tricks and insider knowledge for you, that I had to collect in years of work.
I want to start this very much needed support system and I am thrilled that you are here to make part of it.
